Tear troughs
Tear troughs
Tear troughs are the grooves running from the inner corners of the eyes toward the cheek, which are very difficult to conceal with skincare products and makeup because the skin in this area is extremely thin, creating shadows. Blood vessels visible through the skin also cause darkness. The eyes appear sunken, and the expression always looks tired.
The issue is treated by thickening the skin using either autologous fat or dermal filler. Once the under-eye skin becomes plumper, the sunken appearance and shadows disappear from the smoothed skin, and superficial blood vessels no longer show bluish through the skin.
Fillers last much longer under the eyes than, for example, in the lips. Note! On average, tear trough filler treatments are repeated every 9 to 12 months.
After the Treatment
Following the procedure, there is often swelling and redness in the treatment area. Swelling can be reduced with appropriate cold compress treatments. During the first few nights, it is also advisable to elevate the head of the bed, for example with a pillow, to keep swelling under control.
Swelling subsides on average within 2 to 3 days after the procedure. Sometimes the swelling decreases quickly on one side and a bit slower on the other side. This is normal. Bruising can also easily form in the area if the treatment is performed with a filler needle. All side effects usually disappear within the week following the treatment.
